Amanda Petrik-Gardner: “I’m so OCD” : Someone’s Obsessive Disorder is Not Your Personality Quirk

Episode #107

Amanda Petrik-Gardner is a LPC who specializes in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive and Related Disorders, including OCD, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Hoarding, and Body Focused Repetitive Behavior Disorder. Amanda is the creator of the OCD Exposure Coloring Books and is on the board for OCD Kansas, an affiliate of the IOCDF (International OCD Foundation). She also shares her expertise on social media to her combined 65K+ followers. Today Amanda breaks down all of the above mentioned disorders: the signs and symptoms, how to get help, and how each of these disorders can manifest. Amanda also talks about social media: her perspective and experience as well as our collective experience with normalizing conversation around mental health and the areas we can still improve upon.

“We don’t do this in the physical health field. We don’t say, ‘I’m so cancer, I’m so diabetes, I’m so coronary heart disease…’ but with mental health you hear this all the time: ‘I’m so OCD, I’m so ADHD’ and it’s so harmful.”  – Amanda Petrik-Gardner
